Google Map Saver (GMS) offers you an easy way to download big Google Maps on your PC as JPEG, PNG-8, PNG-24, BMP or Targa files. GMS is light (only ~400 KBytes) and very easy to run since doesn’t have an installer. Just download it on your Desktop and Run-It!
GMS runs on Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
GMS is 100% free, no spyware!
Here is a sample map saved with GMS
and here is the BIG jpeg (on Flickr)
Removing the Watermark
Just follow the steps described in the image bellow in order to activate your free copy.
GMS is not Crippleware. The superimposed watermark can be removed, easily, with three clicks. It is there only that you visit the About Box
By Downloading and running GMS you agree with the license and with the “Fair Use” terms listed bellow.
Fair Use
I was trying to be fair, in relation with you, the user, by giving this application for free, so please try the same and please follow my recomandations:
- Do not use maps created with GMS for commercial purpose.
- Do not use the downloaded maps in conjunctions with navigation hardware.
- Even if it is possible to retrieve greather than 4000×4000 pixels maps, I don’t recommend you to do that.
- Do not try to automate GMS with automation tools (e.g. AutoHotKey). You will break the Google’s Terms of Use (bulk download).
- Do not remove the Google overlays and copyright notes.
Q&A
- Q: Can I run it on Linux or Mac?
A: I think you can by using WineHQ. - Q: I think your tool breaks the Google’s Terms of Use
A: I was thinking about this before I made the application public. What I can tell you, is that I’m not using any tricks (e.g. direct and bulk downloads) to get the maps. I’m simply using the a standard Google URL via IFRAME. Google allows us to see bigger maps. I found is possible, I did it. In GMS one user request = one Google Maps access. No bulk download. - Q: There are other ways to save Google maps?
A: Yes! They are. Some are commercial OR there are some free Firefox hacks. I’m not competing theese solutions. I just wanted something simple AND free. - Q: How can I contribute?
A: Make some comments, give some suggestions, spread the word, digg it or… - Q: Will you keep this tool free?
A: Yes
GMS is Beta! If you find any bugs or you have any ideas please comment.

when i saved the image with custom resolution 15000 x 15000, i got an error said ” not enough storage to process this command” even i have plenty of disk space. may i know how much estimate disk space is needed to save image with that resolution. thanks
I need to investigate this.
15000×15000 is ~250 MPixel. That’s a lot.
Thank you for your feedback
I’ve observed there is a limitation in the saving function.
I should solve this 1st.
After that I need to see if there is such limitation in Google’s code or even in the browser.
I’ll put a comment here so follow the comments RSS

I’ve managed to get a 10000×10000 PNG
JPEG still in progress for such big picture.
I don’t plan to support bigger than 250 MPixel, since it odd and eats a lot of memory/bandwidth.
For bigger resolution maps, I suggest you to download pieces and use a Photo Stitch application.

Can i get 10000 X 10000 PNG version if i download the software again? 10000×10000 resolution is OK and fair for program stability. Thanks for quick reply.
Yes! If you download again you will get a new version.
Try PNG-24 instead of JPEG. It is much stable.
If on your system 10000×10000 doesn’t work try 9000×9000 and so on.
PS: Don’t forget to remove the watermark. See Up, in the description on this page.
Nice work!
It’s working on custom 10000 x 10000 resolution with zoom 15. I can save it in PNG-24. Very well output and less time comsumption. The file size is round about 250 MB. Thanks alot.
what a useful tool, been looking for something like this to print google maps. Only used it for a couple of maps but it worked an absolute treat and the bonus is its free as well.
Top man, many thanks.

Nice!
- Would be even nicer if the app could be made to remember its last window size, screen position and [at least] the last thing the user typed into the input boxes.
- Why not support TIFF output? I have at least one free image program (Photofiltre) that doesn’t like your PNG24 format. But another image program (Polyview) processed it fine. I haven’t tried any of the other similar programs I have like Gimp, etc.
- The coordinates don’t update when a new map is displayed. Can this be made to happen?

Jojo… Thanks for your feedback. I will consider your comments when I will have time to work on this.
Very nice app, thanks!
Would be nice to be able to specify min and max coordinates instead of the center position: this could produce “almost calibrated” images.
Thanks again!

Hi,
Clicking on the globe does not remove the watermark.
What can I do ?
Hello, I like your program. I have done what you said to remove your mark but it is in the center of every image. Also I can not open your png24 file with Paint Shop Pro.
Thanks for your reply!

After you press Activate, you need to close the application and restart it again. The watermark will disappear. Sorry for inconvenience.

What a great application. It would be even better if it had a way to remove the annoying locater (“A” in a red circle with a pointer), which spoils just about every map I could think of using. Anyway to implement this?
The file is not png. It’s a BitMaP file according to Irfanview.
RIOT can reduce the file size to one 10th to 20th the original size: http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/2008/07/launched-irfanview-riot-plugin/
Thanks!, is very useful.
I was thinking it would be great if saving in GeoTIFF format.
