Camera Sensor – Web Cam Sensor

September 22nd, 2010 | Posted by deCoder in Life Hacks | Personal - (0 Comments)

Camera Sensor detects any motion on your web cam and takes an action.

Currently being in a early beta stage supports the following features:

  1. Captures the motion into an AVI file
  2. Captures the 1st frame of motion on harddisk
  3. Submit that frame to Twitter by using TwitPic [optional as a plugin]

It works on Windows7 and Windows Vista. On Windows XP you may need to install .NET.

You can download the installer from here but since is password protected you may get the password from me if you are willing testing it and giving me some feedback.

CameraSensor is a small .NET application that does some automatic action when a certain level of motion is detected in front of your webcam.

As an example I’ve set my webcam to have a look on my telephone and twitts a picture when motion occurs (e.g. on new incoming call).

As a result, you get the caller ID on your twitter account within seconds.

You can extend the usage of this app in many ways, e.g. by setting like a cheapo security system or to send automatic pictwitts with your webcam.

CameraSensor uses the AForge.NET library and will be available soon for download.

Here is a live example:

Se pare ca multi au uitat de floppy-uri.
Pe vremuri asa te protejai de virusi. Intre timp SD-card-urile sunt peste tot. Desi au aceiasi metoda simpla de protectie ca la Floppy multi uita de asta.

Fra-miu a avut azi o revelatie :D
sdprotection

Asa ca… Inainte de a baga un SD-Card intr-un computer strain nu uita-ti ca-l puteti proteja la scriere tragand de switch-ul ala in jos:

I’m assuming that you installed Windows XP on 1st disk and the OSX86 on a separate disk (2nd disk)

Here we go…

Getting the chain0 file from your OSX86
- Put a memory stick in the PC and boot OSX86
- In OSX86 start terminal and type:
cp /usr/standalone/i386/chain0 /Volumes/[MemoryStickName]/

chain0 is a 512 bytes file containing the Darwin boot sector

Placing the chain0 file to the root of your XP boot partition
- Reboot to Windows XP
- Be sure to copy the chain0 file from the memory stick to root of the Windows XP boot partition (usually C:\)

Editing boot.ini file
- Click-Right on My Computer, then Properties, Advanced, Start Up and Recovery and then Settings
- In the Startup and Recovery page, press the Edit button
- Add the following line to the boot.ini
C:\chain0="Mac OS X"
- Save boot.ini and reboot

On the boot screen you should have another option to boot OSX. Select it and press Enter.

The PC should boot OSX86.

The Old New Thing : Woe unto PROGMAN.INI

For you guys (me included) wanting better resolution on your 1024×600 netbook (Eeepc, MSI Wind, etc.)

Here is a cool tip from troniu.

Start Terminal and type:

defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8

killall Finder

And you got 20% more pixels ;-)

For Free!

More details here.

Problems that I found on EeePC 1000h:

  • Safari doesn’t open anymore
  • PhotoBoth effects page 2,3,4 shows shifted
  • Context menu on dock icons shifted up
  • OS tray bar icons not scalled correctly
  • It seems there is a conflict with SwitchResX application and is not possible to rollback after a reset. It only worked after I uninstalled SwitcResX

My recomandation is to use this per application, since there are some big problems when downscaling the entire desktop.

To do that, just type in terminal the following command:

defaults write com.applicationpath AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.8

sandbergFor my Acer Aspire Revo HTPC I look around to get a decent Wireless Multimedia keyboard, that includes the functionality of a Mouse or Touchpad and doesn’t cost half the price of the Revo ;-)

My requirements:
- Small
- trackball/touchpad included
- Light
- Wireless (no bluetooth)
- ergonomic for drag and drop
- a price tag bellow 50 Euro

After searching around I found the Sandberg’s Wireless Touchpad Keyboard from Jakob Elektronik for 44 Euro.

After using it for two days I’m pretty satisfied.

The precision of the touch pad is good as is the navigation. I can navigate with the right thumb and use the left thumb for drag and drop operations. The touch pad supports single click, double click and two finger (multi touch) for scroll.

If you have a HTPC on your LCD/Plasma TV, in the living room this keyboard is pretty good. You can navigate the web, write emails, chat, watch movies, photos, record dvd’s, etc. right from the sofa. You don’t need any surface to use navigate your PC. Being so light you can even keep it in one hand and type with another.

The only annoying thing, I’ve observed so far. It doesn’t look very solid even if Sandberg offers 5 years warranty.

So, don’t forget it on sofa and stay on it later.

It may bend and break ;-)

Update! I found a small problem with the touchpad. It seems that the touchpad is tricked by watter or dirt. So… If you have problems with the touchpad just clean it a little.

PS: I’m not affiliated with Sandberg or Jacob Elektronik. I simply like this piece of hardware and I just wanted to share my experience with you.
