Visual Studio 2010 is a very good choice for developing portable Client-Side HTML5 and JavaScript applications for Mobile and Desktop.

While Visual Studio 2010 supports JavaScript intellisense there are some tips and tricks you need to know.
Here we go:

Tip 0: Download and install the following Visual Studio 2010 Extensions

  • Indent Guides
  • JScrip Brace Matching Extension
  • JScript Editor Extensions
  • JScript Outlining Extensions
  • JScript Word Highlighter Extension
  • VSCommands 2010
  • Productivity Power Tools
  • PowerCommands for Visual Studio 2010
  • MotherEffin THML5 Site (based on HTML5 Boilerplate project)

Tip1 : If you want to develop client-side application with HTML 5 and JavaScript, start a blank solution and add HTML files and JS files accordingly. Otherwise start and empty WebSite.

Tip2: You may want to use JQuery. To get intellisense for JQuery have a look here.

So, as you may know Microsoft recently acquired Skype in a deal that tops 8.5 billion.

Today Skype did an AUTOMATIC UPDATE on my PC.

The hell, nobody asked me if I want or not, so Microsoft scores one point

I couldn’t stop that. Fiiiine!

Now, after the update was nicely executed I got this dialog.

They need to REBOOOOOOOT! Oh NOOOOO! Skype needs to reboot the f%$!ing Operating System.

I’m pretty sure that these things with automatic updates and rebooting the PC w/o option was part of the deal.

What is coming next? Free blue screens while calling?

CSharp for Delphi Developers

March 23rd, 2010 | Posted by deCoder in Work - (0 Comments)

Glenn Stephens put together a nice piece of documentation that you can download from here. It is a “mini book” very good for Delphi guys that need/want to go C# . ;-)

In fact, if you are experienced Delphi developer, after reading this minibook, you will be an experienced C# Developer in few hours.

I wish I had this minibook few years ago.

My virtual friend bingo_bongo challenged me to measure the performance while playing the Planet_Earth_From Pole_to_Pole_1080p_sample_16ref.mkv on my Acer Aspire Revo Single Core Atom Nettop.

Since my previous test was done on Window Vista, with a not-so-challenging sample like this one I’ve decided to give it a try on Windows 7 (32-bit).

I was using Media Player Classic Cinema with EVR Custom Presenter forced on DirectX 9, with MPC H.264 Decoder DXVA no FGT on NVidia ION driver 4318 (installed from K-Lite codec pack).

The subtitiles were on and working.

The video and audio was running perfectly smooth, on cascade ripples as well during the entire sequence with the birds.

Here is the CPU behavior (Kernel time in Red). I’ve marked with two arrows the start and the stop of the video. The high CPU spikes at beginning and end, were generated by maximizing/minimizing full screen.

My conclusion.
With proper codec configuration the NVidia ION on Single Core Atom is perfect for Full-HD playback.

Video2Photo Is Back, HD!

November 3rd, 2009 | Posted by deCoder in Personal | Work - (2 Comments)

With Video2Photo HD you can take and manage snapshots from any video playable on your Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 PC.

It works with AVI, MOV, MP4, MPEG and various codecs out there including AVCHD and AVCHDLite.
If the video is playable on you PC then most likelly Video2Photo HD can handle that.

Here is a sample snapshot in Full-HD and here others.

Stay Tuned!

gupr_small

Flickr Gupr is my new experimental project. It behaves almost like Flickr Uploadr:
– Edit the Title, Description, Tags, Security Level, etc. off-line and submit them with the photo
– Group Edit of all these properties (e.g. select desired photos and edit specific properties)
– Batch Upload

There are some extra nifty features:
– You can create packs of groups and manage them off-line. When you want to send the photo, gupr will automatically send that photo to all selected groups
– When uploading the photo, you can post a comment (most likely the First Post on the photo thread)
– You can add a watermark to your photo by just typing it in

Planned features:
– You can update an existing photo
– You can schedule the upload at a specific hour
– Add tags from the tag clouds (tag manager)
– Custom signatures in the description and 1st comment area
– Basic Image processing (crop, straighten, rotate, down/re sample)
– …

This is an early functional beta. You can download it and you are free to use it.
You will need .NET 2.0. Feel free to comment.

Motion Sensor

May 25th, 2009 | Posted by deCoder in Life Hacks | Work - (5 Comments)

I’ve been adding to the Talking Pixels application a real-time motion detection algorithm.
You add an area, you set the motion sensor sensibility and then you assign a script. Here are some examples with basic midi commands.
